Oral surgery treatment
When we talk about oral surgery, we often get scared and think that it must be a big problem that can only be solved by painful procedures. Fortunately, this is a misconception, because at Pure Dental's Budapest office, oral surgery treatments are entirely painless procedures.
In what cases should you turn to oral surgery?
At our dental practice we always try to save teeth through conservative therapy, but unfortunately in some cases this is not possible. This may be the case, for example, if someone comes to the dentist with very advanced caries or if there is a high degree of inflammation, i.e. a nodule at the root apex. Similarly, cases that cannot be treated with therapy include a high degree of tooth fracture, which means that the tooth can no longer be restored, or a tooth with a hopeless prognosis for periodontal disease.
How is a tooth removed during oral surgery?
There are three types of tooth extraction. One is a simple tooth extraction, in which a simple toothpick is used to remove the tooth.
- For single-rooted teeth, this method can be expected to heal very quickly, whereas for multi-rooted teeth the healing time can be longer.
- A second alternative is dissection, i.e. tooth extraction by separating the roots, whereby the roots of multi-rooted teeth are separated using a diamond drill, allowing them to be removed more easily.
- The third method is surgical tooth extraction, which is used when, for example, the tooth is deeply impacted or the anatomy of the tooth roots does not allow for easier removal
All three oral surgery treatments are completely painless and the recovery time, even with surgical tooth extraction, is up to one week. It is recommended that teeth are replaced as soon as possible after extraction to avoid bone loss and to prevent other teeth from starting to move.
How is wisdom tooth removal done by oral surgery?
Our patients often come to us with the problem that their wisdom tooth is already causing them problems during its growth and they decide to have it removed.
In most cases, the removal of the wisdom tooth can be achieved by a simple tooth extraction in the upper dentition, while this is the case in 35% of cases in the lower dentition. If the wisdom teeth are set back in the jawbone or their anatomical shape makes tooth extraction impossible, the wisdom tooth is surgically removed.
A wisdom tooth is a tooth that is completely non-functional in mastication and therefore does not need to be replaced.
When do you need a deciduous tooth extraction in oral surgery?
In childhood, if there is a high degree of caries, it is a good idea to have a deciduous tooth removed to prevent or eliminate existing pain.
In addition, oral surgery to remove deciduous teeth is necessary if tooth replacement is not taking place properly and this is preventing the eruption of permanent teeth, which can also occur in adults.
It is also important to prevent deciduous teeth from taking over the role of permanent teeth due to the germ of the permanent tooth remaining in the jawbone or not emerging at all. This is particularly important because the life span of deciduous teeth is much shorter than that of permanent teeth.
At Pure Dental Oral Surgery, we always try to perform tooth extractions in children when the permanent teeth are due to erupt within a year. In adults, it is also advisable to have tooth replacement as soon as possible after tooth extraction.
What other treatments are available in our oral surgery practice in Budapest?
In our oral surgery department, we offer resection, which is an adjunct to root canal treatment, during which the root apex is amputated and removed.
When the roots of the back teeth are too close to the base of the sinus, they can become damaged and communication can occur between the sinus and the oral cavity. To prevent this, a minor surgical procedure is necessary to avoid complications later on.
We also deal with cyst and fibroid removal. The former may be caused by inflammation or a malformation, while the latter may be caused by mechanical damage. We also offer dental implants and bone grafting, which are also performed by our oral surgeons for successful tooth replacement.
