IMPLANT RELEASE, INSERTION OF A GUMFORMING SCREW

The dental implant heals under the gum for 3-6 months after implantation. After the healing period the first step is to release the implant with a painless, minor procedure during which a so-called gum-shaping screw is inserted into the implant to shape the surrounding gum into a beautiful, aesthetic shape which will allow the creation of a natural tooth later on. This gum shaping takes 2 weeks after which the crown preparation procedures can begin.

SINUS LIFT - OPEN SINUS LIFT WITH BONE GRAFTING MATERIAL

In the absence of posterior teeth if someone has lost a tooth a long time ago and bone resorption has occurred over time or if the anatomy of the sinus is such that the bone height between the sinus and the oral cavity is inadequate a sinus lift can be used to gain bone height.  If a larger amount of bone gain is needed a so-called open sinus lift is choosen. The name comes from the fact that a bony window is made in the sidewall of the sinus through which the mucous membrane of the sinus is lifted and bone substitute material is placed underneath. The healing period is 6 months.
In cases where there is at least 4 millimetres of natural bone height available, we can also place the implants at the same time significantly shortening the overall treatment time. However, if the bone height is less than that we can only place the implants after the bone has fully healed.

SINUS LIFT - INTERNAL SINUS LIFT WITH BONE GRAFTING MATERIAL

In cases where the bone height is 7-8 mm or less internal sinus lift is performed. Once the implant’s place is prepared a small amount of bone graft material can be inserted under the sinus membrane through a minor procedure. With this procedure we can safely gain 2-3 mm of bone height so that we can insert an implant of the right height.
