Why do you need oral hygiene treatment?

Basic home oral care such as brushing, flossing and mouthwash is not enough to maintain proper oral hygiene. Food debris and plaque in the mouth can inevitably get trapped between the teeth or gums, which over time can turn into tartar. The build-up of plaque and tartar on the teeth and along the gums can be the basis of most dental problems, irritating and weakening both the gums and the tooth surface. This is exactly what oral hygiene treatment addresses. Not only does it help remove tartar, but it also helps prevent dental problems, keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Can oral hygiene treatment be avoided?

Oral hygiene treatment is essentially as important in dentistry as blood work is in identifying disease. Not only can oral hygiene treatment be used as a preventive measure, but it is the first treatment that is carried out for most dental procedures that develop. Why? Because oral hygiene treatment removes all bacteria and contaminants from the teeth and the entire mouth, creating a safe environment for procedures. Oral hygiene treatment should be done every six months, even if you don't have any dental problems. Although good oral hygiene at home can reduce tartar build-up, in some cases less frequent oral hygiene treatment is sufficient, but twice a year is recommended.

What happens if we do not have regular oral hygiene treatment?

If oral hygiene treatment is less frequent than every six months, the build-up of tartar and bacteria in the mouth can be the cause of many dental problems. If tartar is not removed, dental problems such as tooth decay, gingivitis, gum recession, tooth discolouration, bad breath and ultimately tooth loss can occur. If you want to avoid these, make sure you visit our practice for regular oral hygiene treatment to prevent problems!
