What Is a Dental Veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin, 0.3–0.7 mm shell (made of pressed ceramic or composite material) that is bonded to the visible surface of the tooth. Its purpose is the aesthetic correction of the tooth's colour, shape, length or position – with minimal loss of tooth structure and no pain. Its two main types are the direct composite veneer and the E-max pressed-ceramic veneer.

A dental veneer can create a smile that fits perfectly with your face, lips and character – which is why it is often called a Hollywood smile.

When Is a Dental Veneer the Right Choice?

Dental veneers are an ideal solution if you would like an aesthetic correction, and want to improve the shape, colour or minor irregularities of your teeth.

These solutions involve minimal loss of tooth structure, so the natural structure and health of your teeth are preserved, while you enjoy the confidence of a Hollywood smile.

Typical cases where a veneer is the best choice

Persistent tooth discolouration that can no longer be improved with whitening

Unsuccessful or not sufficiently effective correction after teeth whitening

Diastema – a gap between the front teeth

Chipped or broken tooth edge

Worn, short-looking front teeth (e.g. due to teeth grinding)

Slightly irregular tooth shape or position

Old, discoloured fillings on the visible front teeth

As part of a complete smile design / aesthetic makeover

Not sure which solution is right for you? At your consultation, we use digital smile design to jointly choose the veneer type that best suits your needs and your teeth.

Direct Veneer
Premium dental veneers at PureDental

Direct Veneer

A veneer made of a special composite material, which the dentist builds up layer by layer directly onto the tooth surface, right at the clinic.

What results can I expect from a direct veneer?+
A natural-looking, aesthetic appearance, with a result you can enjoy immediately. The direct veneer is custom-matched to the colour and shape of the neighbouring teeth, so the final result is almost indistinguishable from your own tooth. See the before/after photo of our patient.
How is a direct veneer different from a ceramic veneer?+
The direct veneer is made of composite material, at the clinic, in a single visit, without any tooth reduction. The ceramic (E-max) veneer is made of pressed ceramic in a dental laboratory, with minimal tooth reduction – but it is more durable and more translucent.
Who is a direct veneer recommended for?+
For those who want a fast, gentle and cost-effective aesthetic correction. It is the best choice for minor discolouration, a small gap, a chipped edge, or a minor irregularity in one or two teeth.
What are the advantages of a direct veneer?+
Tooth-structure-friendly, no-reduction procedure, completed in a single visit, ready to enjoy immediately. More cost-effective than a ceramic veneer, and can later be easily replaced or adjusted.
How durable is a direct veneer?+
On average 3–7 years, and even longer with careful care and regular check-ups. Its lifespan is affected by teeth grinding, chewing habits, smoking and oral hygiene.
Is tooth reduction needed for it?+
In most cases, no – this is one of the biggest advantages of the direct veneer. Only minimal surface preparation is needed so that the composite material bonds precisely to the tooth surface.

E-max Ceramic Veneer
Premium dental veneers at PureDental

E-max Ceramic Veneer

An ultra-thin pressed-ceramic shell that is placed on the surface of the front teeth, providing a perfect aesthetic result with minimal intervention.

What results can I expect from a ceramic veneer?+
A natural-looking, aesthetic appearance, with premium light transmission. The translucency of E-max pressed ceramic is almost identical to that of tooth enamel, so the final result is perfectly natural and durable. See the before/after photo of our patient.
Who is a ceramic veneer recommended for?+
For those who want a long-lasting, premium aesthetic solution – especially for a complete aesthetic transformation of the front teeth, more severe discolouration, shape irregularities, or smile design (a "Hollywood smile").
What is the secret to the durability of the E-max porcelain veneer?+
E-max is a homogeneous, pore-free pressed ceramic, formed under high pressure and temperature. It is extremely resistant, resists wear and discolouration – mechanically and in appearance similar to tooth enamel.
What are the advantages of the E-max ceramic veneer?+
Natural translucency, a long lifespan (10–15+ years), a stain-resistant surface, minimal loss of tooth structure, biocompatible material. Ideal for a complete smile makeover.
How natural is the final result?+
Extremely natural: the translucency of E-max pressed ceramic is almost identical to that of tooth enamel. With an experienced specialist and digital smile design, it is almost indistinguishable from your own tooth.
How long does the treatment and the result take?+
The treatment is typically completed in 2–3 visits, over about 1 week. The finished E-max veneer has a lifespan of 10–15 years, in many cases even longer – with proper dental care and wearing a night guard.
