Modern solutions for treating periodontal disease
Do you have bleeding gums? Bad breath? Sensitive teeth? Our self-confidence can be affected by the condition of our oral hygiene, so don’t let this make you feel uncomfortable.
At PureDental, we use the latest periodontal treatments to gently and safely stop gum disease so you can smile freely again.
Untreated periodontal disease leads to tooth loss over time. With our summer package offer, we provide comprehensive periodontal treatment — from diagnosis to follow-up — now at a discounted price.
Periodontal disease (periodontitis) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the tissues surrounding and supporting the gums and teeth.
The main cause is tartar, which forms from plaque deposits and in which bacteria settle.
These bacteria cause inflammation in the gums, which, if left untreated, can lead to gingivitis, then gum recession, then bone loss, and finally tooth loss.
Periodontal disease is considered a primary systemic disease: it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, complications from diabetes, and even preterm birth. Therefore, it is not only a dental issue but also a matter of general health—early treatment protects the entire body.
Periodontal treatment is recommended for anyone who has gum or periodontal problems and wants to avoid tooth loss. It is also worth visiting our specialist if you only have mild symptoms, as early intervention can stop the process and preserve the long-term stability of your teeth.
What are the most common symptoms of periodontal disease?
If you experience even one of the dental symptoms listed above, you should see our periodontist as soon as possible—periodontal disease is completely reversible in its early stages.
The aim of periodontal treatment is to stop gum inflammation and gum recession, and to preserve teeth. Using modern anesthesia, we remove tartar, clean the areas under the gums, and smooth the tooth surfaces. We ensure that the results are maintained through regular check-ups.
During the initial consultation, we perform a dental assessment. The periodontal examination consists of pocket depth measurements, a gum examination, and, if necessary, a 3D CBCT scan—allowing us to accurately determine gum recession, the depth of inflammation, and the extent of bone loss.
Based on the results of the examination, our specialist will prepare a detailed, written treatment plan that includes the necessary procedures, the duration of treatment, and the costs—with no hidden charges.
The first step in treating periodontal disease is a thorough ultrasonic scaling and polishing. This procedure removes tartar above the gumline and smooths the surface of the teeth through polishing. It is an essential step for further periodontal treatments.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is completely painless. In milder cases, we use closed curettage; in more severe cases, we use open curettage or regenerative therapy (e.g., Emdogain).
After treatment, we provide personalized recommendations for oral hygiene at home, and then ensure long-term results through checkups and professional cleanings every six months.
Depending on the stage of periodontal disease, we offer all three main treatment options—often in combination—to preserve as many teeth as possible.
A minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia without surgical incisions. We use special curettes and an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar and inflamed tissue from beneath the gums. The goal is to eliminate the inflammation and prevent the condition from worsening.
Benefits: minimally invasive, quick recovery, pain-free
Who is it recommended for? Mild to moderate periodontal disease, early-stage periodontal pockets
For advanced periodontitis, when closed curettage is no longer sufficient. We surgically open the gum to gain full access to the deeper periodontal pockets. We remove the inflamed tissue, clean the root surface, then close the area and promote regeneration.
Benefits: precise access to deep tissues; many teeth can be saved
Who is it recommended for? Deep gum pockets, severe periodontitis, where bone loss is already significant
Emdogain is a natural protein gel containing amelogenin that is applied to the cleaned tooth root and the inner surface of the alveolar socket. It stimulates natural tissue regeneration, restores the tooth’s supporting fibers, and supports healing with its antibacterial effect.
Benefits: genuine bone and tissue regeneration, clinically proven efficacy
Who is it recommended for? Deep periodontal pockets where regeneration is needed
Receding gums cause aesthetic problems and increase sensitivity at the tooth neck. Using surgical techniques (e.g., flap surgery or soft tissue grafting), we restore the gum line and cover the surface of the tooth neck, ensuring that the tooth remains permanently protected.
Don’t wait until it hurts. Periodontal disease often develops over many years with few symptoms—by the time your teeth start to loosen, significant bone loss has already occurred. We strongly recommend an annual periodontal screening:
The price always depends on the treatment plan: the severity of the periodontal disease, the number of affected teeth, and the chosen procedure. After the initial evaluation, we provide a written quote—with no hidden costs.

Dentist, periodontist
Dr. Melinda Váry is a periodontist at PureDental who graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Semmelweis University in 2008. After graduation, she practiced in the United Kingdom, and upon her return, she successfully passed her board certification exam in periodontology.
Her areas of expertise include the treatment of periodontal diseases, regenerative surgical techniques, correction of gum recession, and aesthetic soft-tissue surgery. She is also skilled in comprehensive oral rehabilitation, digital dentistry, and microscopic dentistry, enabling her to confidently treat even complex cases.
We have compiled answers to the questions most frequently asked by our patients regarding periodontal disease and periodontal treatments.
The periodontal examination consists of a gum examination, pocket depth measurement, and X-ray or 3D CBCT imaging. This allows for accurate determination of gum recession, inflammation depth, and bone loss.
Proper oral hygiene (brushing twice a day, flossing, interdental cleaning), regular tartar removal, and biannual dental checkups are the most effective forms of prevention.
In the early stages (gingivitis), yes, with professional cleaning and proper home care. In advanced periodontitis, the process is irreversible, but it can be stopped and stabilized with treatment.
Not in the classic sense, but it is caused by bacteria that can be transmitted through saliva. However, predisposing factors (poor oral hygiene, smoking, diabetes) are also necessary for its development.
Gingivitis only affects the gums and is reversible. Periodontal disease also damages the bone, causing gum recession and loose teeth, and requires special periodontal treatment.
Yes, if we don’t maintain proper oral hygiene and don’t go for regular checkups. Periodontitis is a chronic disease; it can be halted with treatment, but maintenance therapy (semiannual checkups, professional cleanings) is important for the rest of your life.
Closed curettage is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia, during which tartar and inflamed tissue are removed from the surface of the tooth root beneath the gum line. We use special curette channels and an ultrasonic scaler for this procedure. The aim of the treatment is to eliminate inflammation, promote gum regeneration and prevent further deterioration of periodontal disease.
In cases of advanced periodontitis and gum disease, closed curettage is no longer sufficient. In such cases, we perform open curettage, which is a minor oral surgical procedure: we surgically open the gums to gain full access to the deeper bone pockets. We remove the inflamed tissue, clean the root surface, then close the area and encourage regeneration.
Emdogain, a gel containing a natural protein called amelogenin, is a modern tool in regenerative periodontology. This gel is applied to the cleaned tooth root and the inner surface of the bone pocket, and then the gum is closed.
Emdogain stimulates natural tissue regeneration, helps restore the tooth’s supporting fibers, and supports healing with its antibacterial effect. It is quick and gentle to use, and clinically proven to be effective.
